Overview:

Recreation internship supporting; Developed recreation facility maintenance, dispersed recreation site cleaning, and non-motorized trail clearing and repair. The Fillmore Ranger District oversees 4 developed recreation sites, 100+ dispersed sites and 300+ miles of non-motorized trails.

Responsibilities:

Work will deal with maintaining recreation facilities and infrastructure through cleaning of restrooms, fence repair, trash pickup, mowing, painting, and other tasks as needed. Trails work will be required including, pruning back vegetation, reconstructing trail tread, and installing grade control and water drainage structures. The internship will give a good background to hands on natural resources management as it relates to recreation.

Qualifications:

Excellent physicial fitness as trails are remote and hike in hike out are the only means of access. It is not uncommon to hike 8 to 12 miles per day packing tools and performing strenuous work throughout the day. The job is in the field almost everyday in all types of weather conditions. Crew members pack all necessary equipment, fuel, food, water, and PPE for the day.
